Theme: Agricultural Production Development in Ghadames Basin – Soffejin Valley (Reality & Prospects)

Introduction

The agricultural sector is one of the primary economic sectors due to its role in supplying food and clothing, supporting the national economy, and providing sustainable employment opportunities.

Bani Waleed region possesses vast agricultural potential with hundreds of thousands of fertile hectares stretching across valleys and slopes situated over the great Ghadames Basin aquifer, benefiting from abundant groundwater that enables genuine sustainable agricultural development.

Therefore, Bani Waleed University convenes "The First Scientific Conference on Agricultural Development in Bani Waleed" to provide a platform for agricultural experts and scholars to present research and formulate practical recommendations to achieve food security.

Conference Objectives

  • Provide an opportunity for scholars and experts to present research on agricultural production in Libya and strategies for its development.
  • Diagnose the current status of agricultural resources (plant and animal production) in the region.
  • Formulate a strategic vision for agricultural development in the Ghadames Basin - Soffejin Valley region.
  • Establish key pillars for an agricultural plan to optimize and conserve natural resource utilization.
  • Propose viable agricultural projects, investment activities, and financing mechanisms in Bani Waleed.

Legislative frameworks, agricultural reform policies, and public-private partnerships for investment.

Developing support services (Agricultural credit & finance, agricultural extension, marketing, and food processing).

Track 6

Vegetation cover, rangeland management, and livestock production improvement.

Track 7

Integrated economic projects (Food manufacturing, agri-tourism) to increase value added in the sector.
